Our study is based on Isa 35:1&6 “The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. 6 Then shall the lame man leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall WATERS BREAK OUT and STREAMS IN THE DESERT”

The salvation of man was prophesized centuries before it came to light in God’s appointed time. God revealed this massage to His servant Isaiah and described the human being as desert or wilderness.

According to dictionary definition, a desert is a land where it is always very hot and dry, and there is a lot of sand: or a place where there is no activity or where nothing interesting happens. Wilderness is also defined as a place that seems no longer used or cared for by anyone.

The human being is described as desert or wilderness because of sin. Sin has corrupted human nature that there is nothing profitable that can be found in it as it is written in John 6:63.

Before Adam sinned, the Spirit of God was nurturing him (Adam). But sin drove out the Spirit of God from him and all of his generation fall short of the glory of God. Rom 3:12 says, they are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. So our sins have made us barren as desert or wilderness where there is nothing profitable to talk about.

Therefore, the human being is likened to a gutter that has been choked with garbage. There is no way running water can flow through. When the people living in Accra filled the Odor River with garbage, they were rewarded with flood and fire because they have diverted the way of the running water.

It is the same way that human beings are rewarded with death after Adam fall from the glory of God. Our souls are choked with sin to the extent that life cannot flow through us. So we are destined to be over flooded into eternal lake of fire if sin stay in us.

To deliver us from this eternal destruction, God sent massage through His servant Isaiah that He (God) will break out water in the wilderness and streams in the desert to nourish the lands for cultivation. So that human being can be fruitful again. Isaiah’s prophesy means that God will reincarnate human beings in a fruitful manner that the lame will walk and the dumb to sing.

Also, speaking about salvation, Zechariah prophesied that in that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness Zech. 13:1

In fact the book of Isaiah is full of prophesies about salvation. And all the prophesies came to pass when Jesus was born. Luke wrote in 2:11 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord”.

So to those who doubt Jesus as the Messiah should read what Luke wrote about Jesus and check Zechariah’s prophesy. Luke wrote to only confirm what the prophet said.

John also wrote that Jesus is the one that came with WATER (1 John 5:6) and this WATER referred to what the prophets spoke about. Isaiah said when that day comes; water will break up in the wilderness and a stream in the desert. Zechariah added that a fountain will be opened in the house of David. Then to proof that the prophesies have come to pass, Luke wrote a saviour is born this day in the city of David.

This water that broke up in the wilderness, turned a stream in the desert and also a fountain in the house of David represents the baptism of Jesus Christ. A proof to this is when John the Baptist told his disciples a day after Jesus was baptized that baptized that BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD, WHICH TAKES AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD John 1:29.

If we listing carefully of what John said, we will notice that he use singular noun for SIN and not plural SINS. The reason is simple, all the sins that has made our human nature unprofitable (desert or wilderness) has its root from one man (ADAM). This root blocked the Spirit of God from flowing through our soul to make us fruitful in the Lord. So Christ came to remove that ancient root so that the Spirit of God can stay in us.

This is well explained by sighting city sanitation officers who clean gutters. In their work, when they realize that the dirty water is not flowing, they don’t fetch the water out of the gutter. What they do is that they search for where the gutter has been choked and then remove the substance. And when that substance is removed, the water and any garbage in it flow away.

So John was saying that Jesus came to remove the stump of sin that condemned all of us. And when the stump is removed, the running water through the desert/wilderness will wash all the waste (our iniquities) away and we shall be clean forever. Since the stump is no more, all waste flow in the running water without any blockage.

Therefore after we believe in the Water Baptism of Jesus, it means the stump is removed and the Spirit of God run through our soul to cleans us so that there will be no trace of sin in us. That is why Isaiah wrote what God said to him in 43:25 that I, even I, am he that blotted out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. Also Isa 1:18 reads, come now, and let us reason together, said the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

My dear Brother and Sister, it is so simple to understand that now that the stump has been removed, the Spirit of God is running through us therefore there no trace of sin in us. It is for this reason that Paul told the Corinthians that there is no sin in them now that Christ the Sacrificial Lamb has been sacrifice for us.1Cor. 5:7. He added in 2 Cor. 5:17 that therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.

So any man who live in Christ and still think he have to struggle with his flesh to be put right with God has proven the word of God to be lie. That person has filled his soul with garbage of self-righteousness for getting that Isa 64:6 said but we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

That is why those who rely on their flesh work for salvation always beg for forgiveness of sins because the streams in their souls (desert) are filled with sins. The stump in their life is not removed to allow the Spirit of the Lord run through their souls.

So with this corrupt faith, God will gather the unclean things and all their self-righteousness as filthy rags; and like as leafs; He will burn them all as example to the June 3 disaster at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

If God has called us in righteousness, we should not corrupt this with our flash deeds. There is no way we can be righteous by our flesh works. Isa 42:6 says, I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles.

So as our study text says, we the wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose when we believe that the stream of life living water is flowing through us. Then shall we the lame man leap, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in us is life eternal attained in the water baptism of Jesus which takes away all our sin.

Happy are those who believe in the true gospel of the Water and Spirit in them is the stream of life living water. AMEN.
